MID CENTURY STYLE

Dakota Johnson has approached Pierce & Ward Design Group to build a safe haven away from the hustle and bustle.

In this series of home tours, we go to the house of American actress Dakota Johnson to examine the decoration of this beautiful villa in more detail. This video is from a March 2020 Architectural Digest magazine video of Dakota Johnson’s Los Angeles home. “This is the front door,” Dakota Johnson tells Architectural Digest. “As this one is,” he says as he opens the side door. “And so it is.” In fact, one of the living room walls is made entirely of large glass doors. And this is one of the attractions that draws Dakota to this Mid Century style villa amidst the trees.

The facing wall of these doors consists of three full-height glass windows. Which open in the form of garage doors facing the pool. “It’s like a tree house on a boat,” says Dakota Johnson.

This house was built by an American architect named Carl Maston. And Dakota bought the house four years ago. “I was fascinated by the simplicity and cleanliness of this house,” says Dakota. ”

MID CENTURY STYLE KITCHEN CABINET

Mid Century kitchen cabinet style is not a time-limited design style. From around the middle of the 20th century until today, this design style has been considered and admired by interior decoration designers. Intrinsic features of Mid Century design style make it a good choice for modern and contemporary kitchens. Smooth and simple lines and the lack of additional decorations as well as a focus on mid-Century style performance make it an ideal for the most used space of today’s homes.

THE NECESSITY OF MID CENTURY STYLE – FLAT DOOR

Since one of the main features of Mid Century style is smooth and simple lines and attention to performance, it makes sense that the door of a cabinet in this style should be flat. Mid Century style flat doors put it in line with modern and contemporary style. Felt doors were not considered for a period of time. In fact, critics of this type of door considered its cheapness and simplicity of the production process as its main drawback. But with the return of the pendulum swinging from the framed and tooled doors to the flat doors, this mindset also faded.

OPEN SHELF OR SIMPLE SHOWCASE DOOR

Another Mid Century style element used in the Dakota home kitchen is the use of showcase doors at the top of the sink. Prior to the introduction of Mid Century style into the interior decoration, the kitchen plan was closed. With the advent of Mid Century design, the walls separating and suffocating the kitchen space collapsed. And the kitchens became more like today’s kitchens. Since the main idea in this design style is the openness and spaciousness of the kitchen space, elements such as open shelves or simple showcase doors place more emphasis on the intellectual space of this style.

BREAKFAST NOOK

The breakfast table next to the kitchen is a common element in the Mid Century kitchen cabinets. The breakfast corner is a great place to eat small meals. Or a friendly discourse while having tea. Dakota has used prominent elements of Mid Century style in this breakfast corner. For example, wooden chairs with old style and leather upholstery. Classic chandeliers in the space above the table evoke the feeling of the 90s in America.

MID CENTURY COLOR PALETTE

Pastel colors are widely used in the Mid Century color palette. Pastel color means a pale and soft state of the main color. For example, if you like colors like pale blue or pale pink, pastel colors will appeal to you. Nothing like these pastel colors creates the feeling of vintage kitchens of the 90’s in the space. In this kitchen, Dakota has used a pastel green color. This beautiful green color is well balanced with the white tiles between the cabinet and the white stone panel in the space.
